I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant about trying Ethiopian food at first, but this was an amazing dining experience! The meal is eaten all with your hands using pieces of spongey bread to scoop up the deliciousness. Any meal that has bread as a staple is fine by me!!! For those that, like me, were unfamiliar with Ethiopian food, there are plenty of helpful tips and explanations on the menu. Before your meal you are presented with one of those piping hot wash cloths like on an airplane. So very luxurious! We got the sampler for three people and all three of us left feeling satisfied. My favorite thing on the plate was the beef followed closely by the potatoes. Yum! The restaurant is larger than I expected, and there was a lot of cool Ethiopian decor. You might be wary to try this place because of the different cuisine, but believe me, you will not be disappointed! I loved it and cannot wait to go back next time I'm in OKC!

Pro: food, price, interior is beautiful Con: I honestly can't think of anything bad for this place, maybe the location since its in a strip mall that looks sketchy? A friend of mine wanted to try this place for dinner today and I was really hesitant since I never tried Ethiopian food but she said the reviews were great, so I trusted her. When I first saw the pictures on here, I was like the food is so little and it didn't look appealing. I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into, but turns out I loved this place! We came in around 6:50 pm and it wasn't packed and even when we ate there, it was just a couple of people at that time. I never gave anyone a five star before but this place is gonna be a first, it's a place that I would definitely go back. We had a unique dining experience. They gave you hot towels to wash your hands since you going to use yours hand to grab the food. They don't have a website so my friend and I was clueless on what to get, but she ended up getting the vegetarian combination was which so delicious! and I got the allat? watt, which taste like beef stews. When we got our plates, we didn't know how to eat it, but the server was nice enough to show us. So the veg. comb. and the allat? watt lies on top of this spongy dough that have the same taste as sourdough bread, and you tear it apart and roll it up w/ the food. I know the food seems little in pictures, but it's definitely filling. The food there are so flavorful. Our servers were attentive. What I like about it is that I felt like I didn't have to be rush to finish my food. I feel like at other restaurants, servers either ask you if you need something too many times esp whether you've finish with the food or they don't. It was definitely a good dining experience for me, trying a new cuisine that I was so nervous about. I felt like I got to experience their culture just by eating there.

Meat sampler is a great choice. I arranged a meetup group to come enjoy this place. I had made a reservation for 15-20 people, but as most RSVPs, only 50% show up. I called ahead to see if they wold entertain us with free appetizers/ desserts, etc and I would talk to the manager when I got there. On arrival around 6:45 (Reservation was at 7), they had a table of 8 for us, but said they will add a couple more as needed. Apparently they know my kind and knew RSVPs weren't upheld. My groups started trickling in and by 7:30 we had most of the people in and were ready to order. There were only 2 servers running the entire restaurant on a Friday night. I had called on Monday so they should have know that there will be at least 1 large party to get additional help. Food: Overall the food was very good. The fried injerna bread was pretty spicy, but that is a positive attribute in my opinion. I ordered the #32 which is the meat sampler for $13.99.The green beans, carrots w/ potatoes, lamb, beef, chicken, lentils, chickpeas were all delicious. Amazingly enough the salad on plate was awesome. and I am not a salad person. The different between the vegetable sampler and the meat sampler, besides the meat options of course, is $2 and you get spinach on the vegetarian sampler. In my opinion, the $2 is well worth it. The chocoloate cake looked amazing, but was a little dry. The same applies for the baklava. The spiced tea smelled incredible with the cinnamon, but you couldn't really taste much. The see-through cup was a nice touch. Water, coke and other refills were minimal and had to flag down out waiter several times. I finally talked to the owner and she hooked us up with desserts (chocolate cake and Baklava). We were probably the last ones there and we joked that they had to use Abacus to calculate what we owed. It took us a long time to get our bills and pay. Overall: Food was pretty good (minus the drinks/desserts). Service was extremely slow and minimal. Environment was fun and jovial. Not a place I will come more than once or twice a year.

Great food, great atmosphere. The owner is very nice. I would advise getting the family platter if with a group.

Unique dining experience. Worth going there once. I've never had Ethiopian food before. The chicken is not great but the vegetarian options are all wonderful. I really enjoyed the beef as well. The spongy telf bread was really strange but nice. The restaurant was deserted on Friday night yet they were out of the only dessert menu item. The wait staff was superb. The building was freezing. No heat in January is crazy!

Hidden gem. When you think of Oklahoma City, you don't necessarily think of Ethiopian food. You would be wrong. We were tipped off on this place by a friend of ours from the area, and we admittedly questioned whether this would be good food. We were only in town for a day and wanted to taste something local and homemade. We were thinking BBQ, maybe Mexican... but Ethiopian? There were very few people in the place, but we were immediately greeted by a waiter and directed to a booth against the window. I got the vegetarian sampler, and my date got the non-vegetarian sampler. They each came on the signature bread that you eat with your hands. No silverware for Ethiopian food, folks! You get used to it, and it makes for more of an eating experience. I loved the variety of the foods. There was a salad in the middle (maybe a bit too much dressing on this one). On the sides there were beans and vegetables of different colors and flavors. It was a little difficult to narrow down exactly what the contents were, but they were all delicious and gave a nice sampler of yummy food. We were also given plenty of the spongy bread that is so typical of this type of food. Neither one of us finished the portions -- so much food! For around $30, the two of us left stuffed and very impressed with this local restaurant. Whether you're from the area or just passing through, you should definitely check this place out.

My *cunning observational skills has led me to the conclusion that diverse eateries tend to be on the slow side with service, regardless of how busy they are. So I've become complacent with it. People with less experience with these places, or just less patience, may get a little antsy. BUT. But. They don't whoosh by you and ignore you when they are around. They are all happy enough to explain the food and all of that to you, and usually prompt first by asking if you know anything about the food. Don't be shy, seriously. (*)Being shy in places you're not accustomed to is, in my opinion, the number one cause of bad dining experiences. If you don't know exactly what you're getting, you may not like it at all. And that could have been changed if you got a bit of information to make a better selection for yourself. Also, feeling awkward and shy isn't a good feeling for anyone. The inside is both quaint and pretty. It's simple and not overly done to attract the eyes of tourist types. The tables are large, because... well, there are some large things on the menu, and they do a good job of not having tiny tables that make dining in this sort of establishment uncomfortable. I noticed on my way out that there is a small area for... tea? Possibly tea and coffee. Just a place to lounge and relax as you drink. I could be wrong, but that's the way it looked to me. They also have a small bar area. Queen of Sheba Messob (5/5): "A dazzling array of beef, chicken, and lamb with vegetarian dishes, arranged in our large serving tray." They will explain it to you themselves, but going in knowing more is always good, and **knowing is half the battle: You get this arrangement for one person and it will be $13.99, two people is $26.99 (so $13.50 each), and three or more people it becomes $12.99 per person. So if you go with a group and no one has something particular in mind, this is a fair choice. That's what my group did, at least! I won't be rating the dishes individually, because they all were equally as good as each other in their own way, but here's what it included (that I remember, sorry): - Salad - Chicken legs - Beef pieces - Lamb pieces - A chickpea spread (possibly shurro watt) - A greenbean salad (atkilt watt I think) - A potato dish (no idea what the name is) - Injera (sour dough-risen flatbread) for scooping everything up! * Like a fox (*) Seriously. ** I'm sorry.

Went with three friends on a weekend night. It is in a shady area and strip mall but do not let that deter you from coming. Ethiopian food is very good and unique. You eat it with your hands and they provide you with a hot towel to clean first. And your hands don't get too messy since you take the crepes they provide to pick the food up with. We got the messob platter for four people to share. Tasty, good, and simple. Good, simple decor and clean. Very nice and friendly waitstaff. I will be coming here more often now. Oh and we shared a slice of chocolate cake that was very good. Glass of red wine was good with the meal too.

There is only one chicken variety and that is bone-in. Bummer !!! I wish there was more variety. Looking at the menu they have different options for lamb/beef. I had the vegetarian platter which was good. Lot of injera and they were fresh. This place is worth a try.

This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and overall, I thought it was very good. Because I didn't really know what to order, I got the messob sampler platter for one. It came with chicken, beef, lamb, salad, potatoes, lentils, and split peas or some other type of lentils. Before your meal comes, they bring you a hot towel to clean your hands. The food is served on top of a giant spongy bread called injera which looks like a big pancake. They bring rolled pieces of it on a side plate as well, and you tear off pieces of the bread and use it to pick the food up with. Unfortunately for me, the bread had a slightly sour taste so I really didn't like it. All of the food on the dish was actually great. I also thought the decor was interesting and enjoyed watching the Ethiopian music videos playing on the big screen. My dinner partner and I were mesmerized by the Ethiopian dancing.

Do yourself a favor and take a walk on the wild side with Queen of Sheba. For the uninitiated, this restaurant may seem like a hodge podge of African and Rastafarian influences mixed with a healthy helping of slow service, but it is an experience you're sure to never forget. Ethiopian food is served with a sour crepe-like sponge bread called injera (you pronounce this the same way a lazy Georgian might pronounce the word injury). To eat the food, you tear off small, manageable pieces of injera and pick up the food with your hands, using the injera like a tiny hot pot holder. And don't worry--if you run out of injera, simply ask for more. The best option on the menu is the Queen of Sheba Messob. Unlike some of the dishes, the Messob is essentially a sampler platter of a variety of different meats and vegetables they offer. I recommend Queen of Sheba for a fun evening with friends or a unique date idea. It's ideal to go with people you like because the food can often take 30 minutes or more to come out.

Once upon a time I went to Queen of Shiba, waited 45 min to be served (didn't even get to order anything but a water), then left never to return. The end. Although written in the format of fiction this is a true story

The food and service has been wonderful every time I have gone here. I have taken many people for their first experience of Ethiopian food, and they have all enjoyed it. I usually get the vegetarian sampler platter or the meet sampler, as it's fun to try many things. My favorite are the lentils spiced with berbere.

Came with my 11 year old to try something new. I thought I would be stopping by McDonalds for him afterwards but he loved it. We started with the Sambusa appetizer and then split the Queen of Sheba Messob for one. We loved eating with our hands. Everyone should experience other food cultures. We will be back.

Well, I am going to have to go against everyone else in my opinion of the injera bread. When it first goes into my mouth, all it is good. After the first bite, it gets very bitter, almost vinagery. I did not care for it at all. But, I don't like sourdough bread so stands to reason I wouldn't like this bread either. I got a lamb dish that was basically a lamb stew. It was very good as I love lamb, potatoes and carrots. I also love being able to choose from several lamb dishes for under $15. What I didn't care for was that most of the dishes are spicy. I cannot handle spice. I am a giant wuss. The service was excellent, not slow at all. I love the decor and smells that hit you when you first walk in. I would defnitely go back but probably not more than like once a year, just for fun and novel dinner.

Such a great place! The food was very good -well prepared and presented. The atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant .The Wat was tasty, with the chicken( Doro) being our favorite. There was no hard boiled egg with this. The taste of the meat reminded us of vindaloo. It was not vindaloo, but it lent itself to those flavors. The green beans were winners by far. Flavors were bold but not overwhelming. The bread was like a thick, sour, and spongy crepe. We all enjoyed the departure from normal fare. Pictures are posted.

Mostly empty but very tasty food. Ethiopian food is similar to actual Indian food (not the stuff they serve in buffet places). Friendly waiters, good food, good music, clean. I wish it weren't in a weird neighborhood that hides this gem of a restaurant.

I love, love, love this place but I realize it isn't for everyone. But if you're reading this you're probably not trying to decide between Queen of Sheba and SONIC for dinner. I've had Ethiopian food at four other places elsewhere in the US and W.Africa and this one doesn't fall short. My only advice would be: if you are a mechanic, invest in a nail brush and get under your fingernails since you eat it with your hands after all. Wear pants with an elastic waistband since you won't want to stop eating. Also, nobody should expect to get in and out quickly. I've never eaten at a super prompt Ethiopian place ever and I think the fact that they're running on Ethiopian time just makes it more authentic.

Having had a lot of Ethiopian food in SoCal, the one in OKC is incredibly good. I get CRAVINGS for this stuff. You can order the veggie combo or the meat/veggie combo and it easily feeds 2-3 people. Very inexpensive and I think it is a GREAT date place because, well as long as everyone washes their hands with the hot rag they give you, you'll be fine. You can have your own roll of injera and so your fingers/hands never really touch the food you are scooping up. But it is delicious. And friendly, fun atmosphere. You can even call ahead of time and just pick up the food. I've only ever got the combos, mostly the veggie one. But anyway, go here once a week. Just do it. Oh, and soooo good for groups of people.

The neighborhood almost scared me away, but I'm glad I didn't let it. The Kitfo was very good. The best Ethiopian I've had is in the Austin area...Pflugerville, TX (Taste of Ethiopia), but this is a close second. I could not understand why this place was not busier...perhaps a very well-kept secret. I'll be back for sure.

When else do you get to eat with your hands and have pancakes with dinner?! I have had Ethiopian food at least four other cities and this is the best I have had. Don't be fooled by the crappy exterior and strange strip mall that it sits in. (International grocery store, Asian nail supply, Mexican dance club and thrift store all in one lot) It is really nice inside. Cloth napkins and everything. Plus, Mimi and Solomon are the best hosts ever. Once you are family, you are family. They great you with kisses and sometimes free samosas, they explain it all to you, and give you nice hot towels. Two things to note. 1. It is a family business all the way so do not be in a hurry. 2. On the weekends it turns into an after hours club that is maybe kinda shady for some (line wraps around the building, cops out in full force) but Saturday has the best reggae and dance hall music in the state. Til 4m. Seriously.

This place is GREAT! I was traveling for work and came across this highly rated and decided to give it a try. The staff was extremely friendly, restaurant impeccably clean. I loved the food (I shared the "sampler" platter with a friend - big portions) The food is delicious. Definitely give this restaurant a try!! Can't wait to travel to OKC again, just to dine here.

I find it hard to believe that Sheba is an actual queen... Because no queen could possibly know how to make food this good! Don't let the questionable exterior of the restaurant fool you, this food is excellent. I ordered the vegetarian platter and I was very pleased with everything. Green beans, lentils, potatoes, salad... I don't even know what exactly I was eating, but I loved every bite, not to mention the generous portion size. My girlfriend ordered the fried fish, which was also delicious - this is what I expect to get when I order fried fish. Rather than using a large, clunky, deep-fried batter that hides the fish, they let the fish be the star of the show - adding just enough "breading" (I'm pretty sure it was just a light dusting of flour to be honest) to create a perfectly crisp crust to the fish. Even their salad was impressive. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and an ingredient I'm disappointed to say I've never thought of including on salad until now - fresh jalapenos - all tossed in lemon juice. Doesn't sound like much, but the simplicity and use of fresh ingredients goes a long way, not to mention the added kick of the jalapenos. And just who the hell had the idea to begin using silverware in the first place?! Using your hands along with the traditional Injera to scoop up all of the delicious food is the best part! This place is awesome, give it a try. Overall Grade: B+

This is the only Ethiopian restaurant in OKC, and it happens to be excellent, which I wouldn't expect out here. A true gem. This place would rival any Berkeley-based Ethiopian restaurant, in my opinion. If you're new to this type of food I'd recommend a meat/veggie combination platter. And feel free to ask them questions, the owners are very nice (albeit a bit slow to bring the check I've noticed). The idea of Ethiopian food can be a bit daunting if you've never had it, but it's truly amazing!!!

I would have never had thought that I would, not just like, but love Ethiopian food! First you get to eat with your hands! Awesome! Second, the beef and lamb are just amazing! If you have never tried Ethiopian, you owe it to yourself to give it a try!

I've been dining at Queen of Sheeba for nearly 5 years and I love it every single time. It's fun to eat with your hands! The sampler platter is the way to go if you're a first-timer or if you are indecisive (like me). If you dine late enough on a Friday or Saturday night, witness the majesty of this quaint, family-owned and run restaurant turns from lovely dining venue to happening night club!

This was my first experience with Ethiopian food but I can say with confidence that I will definitely be back! We got the non-vegetarian group platter for 2. It was $15 for each of us and we were given a large platter with salad, several vegetable dishes, 3 different meat dishes and a potato dish. Everything way laying on top of what looked like a giant crepe. It's the Ethiopian version of bread. It almost had a vinegary taste to it and had more yeast than a crepe making it a little thicker. We were served extra of this bread on the side. You are supposed to use the bread as silverware. The food was delicious. Each meat and vegetable selection had completely different spices and flavor. Everything on the platter was really good! I also really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. There are beautiful African decorations throughout the dinning room. I will defiantly be back!

I have heard really great things about this place from the veg crowd in okc and had to try it out. We split the vegetarian combo for two and it was all good, but not great. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more if our server had been more involved. I am not entirely sure he ever spoke to us. It would have been nice to hear what each item on our combo platter was since I did enjoy some more than others. We would go back, but with the length of the drive, it probably won't be often.

Finally tried Queen of Sheeba!!! So goooood. I have been to Uganda before and the food was very similar to what we had there. If you're looking for authentic African this is a good place to try. It is a really nice place. They play Ethiopian music videos on a big screen which is fun. They have a full bar and lots of drinks to choose from. It is kind of expensive compared to other local places, but really is worth it. Be prepared for this as well... no utensils. They give you this flat bread that is spongy and kind of sour and you use that to eat the food. (not good for a first date haha)

Great Ethiopian restaurant -- such a pleasant surprise tucked into a strip mall. I've been here a few times, and the food has been consistently good. I was really pleased to learn that it was still open, since it had been a few years since I'd been in town. But the place is the same, which is a good thing. As a vegan, I always get the vegetarian combo plate, which has a nice variety of things to try and is really a lot of food. The classic stuff you usually see on ethiopian veggie combo plates: spicy red lentils, yellow split peas, collards, salad. my dish tonight also had green beans and potatoes. Filling and delicious. My dining companions have had several of the meat dishes and seemed very pleased, although I can't comment on those dishes personally. The staff had no problem putting my food on a separate plate so that it would not touch the meat dishes.

  • Derek R.

The only Ethiopian food I've ever had has been here, so I don't know how it stacks up to other Ethiopian food. It is very tasty though. I've gone back several times, and it seems better every time. The atmosphere is good, and the staff is great. This is a good place to take a date because in Ethiopian tradition, you eat with your hands, and you hand feed the people you love. There is plenty of meat on the menu for carnivores like myself, but there are lots of choices for the vegetarian as well. Many people don't eat meat during Lent in Ethiopia, so there are lots of veggie dishes.

I have always sought out Ethiopian food in any new city after trying it for the first time in D.C. Queen of Sheba is not only one of the best Ethiopian places I have tried in terms of its food, but also the service and atmosphere always contribute to the excellent experience. I go at a normal dinner time, usually around 7, and there has never been a wait. The restaurant is spacious and not anywhere near as shady as the surrounding area. Definitely a unique must-try restaurant.

Never had Ethiopian food and loved it. It was some kind of meat stew, looked similar to chili colorado. They give you a bunch of crepe like pieces of bread. The idea is you ripe off pieces of the crepe and use it to grab the meat. Very interesting. I think the waiter took the Ethiopian thing too far though, he could use to eat a cheezeburger.

  • Anne G.

This was an interesting experience. The food was delicious and unique. I wasn't a fan of the sponge bread but I think it just wasn't my taste. Pretty reasonably price if you go with another person. I will surely be returning soon!

If you're adventurous, this is a must try! I'm not sure how authentic this place is, but it's the best "Ethiopian" food I've had. I recommend getting the platters since it'll give you a chance to try different things. The items are served on injera, which is a spongy sour bread made out of teff flour. Service is good, and the owners visit every table.

    (5)
  • Travis B.

Love this place! The injera was delightful, and the whole dinner is one I'll drive back to OKC for. The decor, the staff... its all perfect. If you haven't ever had Ethiopian food, this is an ideal 1st place to visit.

Queen of Sheba is located in a somewhat rougher neighberhood of Oklahoma City but the restaruant inside is very beautiful, has very nice tables and a area for what looks like music playing that happens on certain nights (even though I didnt see it myself). Queen of Sheba is Ethiopian food and the way you eat it is interesting, you order a plate of chicken, beef, or lamb dishes and you use this spongy bread to grab what you wish and then eat with your hands. I ordered a mix of various meats which was good for my 1st time eating this type of food because I could try all the different types there was and taste the different spices and flavors that come along with it. If you have never tried Ethiopian food give Queen of Sheba a try! You wont regret it!

I had the best Ethiopian food in Oklahoma City. Sometimes life is just full of unexpected wonders. Reviewing can suck, there are really only so many ways to say something is great or not. Queen of Sheba is great. The food is great, the atmosphere is great, the service is great, the owners friendly. It is especially great if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Oklahoma City is known for loving everything about eating meat, so it is a nice surprise. Enough already. Keep it short. Queen of Sheba is great. Go.

Had a pile of food and haven't a clue what meat it was, really good stuff. It is very unique but the staff is gentle and will walk you through your first time. As with many other reviewers, this was my first time with Ethiopian food and I'll be back. Not, weekly, probably not even monthly, but I'll be back. I ordered the everything platter, not even sure what it was called. It's served on a huge pancake of some sort and you scoop it up with your bare hands. No silverware given, though I heard you can ask for some. The flavors are very unique, most of them I've never experienced. The meat was not fatty and each unique serving had a very different flavor from the last. Though most people are talking about meat dishes, you can go totally vegetarian and not miss even one thing. Full bar offered but order the honey wine, not listed on the menu.

I decided to try this restaurant out because of reviews I saw on Yelp. The people here seemed really nice. The restaurant looked dark on the inside and empty but clean. I was a litle frustrated because I thought they would have goat on the menu, but everything is either chicken or lamb. I ordered a chicken dinner with overcooked green beans and mashed potatoes. I liked the red sauce on the chicken which was different, and I was intriqued by the Injera bread. I was kind of turned off though by the high prices.

I'm already looking forward to going back! JD and I ordered the sampler platter for two, kitfo, and I had some of the spiced tea. The tea was perfect-- you could taste the spices AND the tea, instead of it being overly spiced. The kitfo, sadly, was too spicy for me-- but it's been too spicy for me at other places too, so it's not like this is some flaw in it. JD loved it, though. And the sampler.... well, the lamb was just amazing, sweet and tender but with enough resistance for an enjoyable chew. The chicken was phenomonal. Neither of us was a huge fan of the lentils, but the chickpeas and the potato-carrot dishes more than compensated. The beef was good, but it didn't get all eaten because we had more than enough food on the table. Next time we go, we might end up getting the sampler platter for one and some gorum gorum. The inhera was also good-- good spongy texture and just enough of that sour tang to remind you that it is what it is. The service was also wonderful. Our waiters were very nice, and very prompt. The decor is lovely too-- good color scheme, very classy looking. The only weird part was that there was a projected video of people dancing on one of the walls.

I am a huge supporter of Queen of Sheba! I come here every time I visit home. How amazing that OKC has this gem of a place. The owners are the coolest and are in the kitchen gettin' it done! I always stick to the veggie sampler which includes perfectly berbere spiced lentils, green beans, potatoes, and salad. Yummy and plentiful injera too! The honey wine is a total treat and not to be missed. Great job!

Wonderful food but slow slow slow service. We arrived at 7:15 and our food came at 8:45. Our waters were never refilled. I love love love Ethiopian food and this place has the right stuff to make a great restaurant. Nice ambiance, Nice staff, good crowd but if you can't get the basics down of waiting tables and kitchen times, only the most diehard fans will be repeat customers. If you do decide to go...try the red lentils if you like some spice and the green beans are to die for. The bread of course is spot on as afar as injera bread goes and they have a decent wine and beer list. The samusas are giant and tasty but are deep fried so if you are watching your diet may not be the best for you. Food gets five stars and service is two stars so I gave a 3 star rating. If you're reading QOS, please get a handle on the service, I would love you to stay in business and I would like to visit again if I don't have to wait an hour and a half for my dinner.

This is the first time I've ever eaten Ethiopian food before, so I have really no basis to judge authenticity, or much else for that matter. I started off with a "lightly deep fried," shredded chicken appetizer that reminded me of an empanada. I can't remember what it was called, but it was really tasty. It had just enough of a spicy kick for me. I then followed that up with the meat sampler platter. The lamb was the best thing on the plate. It was really good. I liked the red lentils a lot as well. There was nothing on the plate that I didn't like, though I didn't eat much of the salad with italian dressing on it. Not actually sure why that was there. The service was great too. This place has motivated me to eat more Ethiopian food.

Though Queen of Sheba is located in a seedy-looking strip mall, the interior of the restaurant is elegant and lovely, not at all what you'd be expecting by it's surroundings. A good place for a date since you'll appear savvy for knowing about such a unique hidden gem in OKC. The server was informative and very gracious and the food was fairly affordable and came in generous portions. The vegetarian sampler is a good bet for anyone new to Ethiopian cuisine (like I was). Definitely worth a visit.

i've seen this restaurant passing by numerous times, but i never new that it was actually a restaurant. just found out about it back in march through a friend. if going for the first time, try the sampler plate. it comes on a big round plate with a thin spongy/tangy pancake like bread with several different items from their menu (chicken, beef, lamb, red lentils, green bean...and some others). it's a pretty good deal for about $12.95 and btw, you eat with your hands here. would give it 4 stars for the food, but 3 for the slowness of the service.

My God, there is an Ethiopian restaurant in OKC! The folks that run it are as nice as can be, I would definitely go back. My only complaint is that I like things a little more spicy than the typical Okie palate, but you can't have everything in the middle of the prairie.

First off, I would not classify this restaurant as serving spicy ethiopian food. Perhaps they have Americanized it or they just don't like spicy food. I can remember eating Ethiopian in the DC area that I swear I lost hair from because it was so hot. Every. Dish. So. Hot. This restaurant is just nicely spiced food. You could even eat completely vegetarian and be happy. Don't go if you are in a rush. Bring a book and drink coffee while you wait. Also, if you order a slice of chocolate cake sometimes (yes, it varies a lot) it is the size of your head.

I don't really know about Ethiopian food but I'm writing a review because my experience here was all good. I have only eaten it a few times and it was all done in North America: Adams Morgan neighborhood in DC, Toronto, Montreal and last night at Queen of Sheba in OKC. The meal we chose (vegetarian sampler) was consistent to what I have eaten before. The food was tasty (spicy lentils, split peas, potatoes, green beans and carrots) the place was almost empty & quiet and our waitress was really sweet. Great find if you are seeking something different. All I need to know now is if there is a disco night, please let me know if you find out

Walking up to this restaurant, I was unsure of what I would experience inside. The strip mall that this restaurant was located in was shady looking. Once inside, I was very surprised. It was clean and all the tables had nice table cloths. My friend and I ordered the Queen of Sheba Messob which included an array of beef, chicken, and lamb with vegetarian dishes, arranged in a large serving tray. You get a hot towel to clean your hands and a plate of injera which is a yeast risen flat bread with a slightly spongy texture. We ate with our hands, scooping the food onto the injera. The chicken was my favorite - the seasoning was delicious. I didn't like the 2 vegetarian side dish. I don't even know what kind of vegetables they were but I wasn't a fan. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was a good experience. Our waiter was so nice and the food was great! Don't get discouraged to try this restaurant based on the building's exterior.

My first experience with Ethiopian food in Oklahoma wasn't spectacular. It was okay, but not the best. Anyway, that place is out of business. I'd been craving Ethiopian for awhile regardless, so I went to Queen of Sheba. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. First, the decor really sets the mood and makes it feel more like an experience. The huge portrait of Haile Selassie really ties the place together. I went for the vegetarian sampler and was surprised that everything was good. Usually there's at least one dish I don't like, but everything was good on this plate. I can't go into too much detail about the taste, because it didn't last long on my plate. That's an understatement. I could've cut it into lines and snorted it and it would have lasted longer. Everything was perfectly spiced, and it surprises me when people say it's the hot kind of spicy, because it really isn't. The injera is a bit tangier than anywhere else I've been, but all in all I think it's a great place to go, and would take friends visiting from out of town. And I intend to.

I have not been in OKC in several years. Between visits I always talk up Queen Of Sheba as a must stop. OKC and Ethiopian food? YES! Don't let the strip mall discourage you. The atmosphere is perfect for a single, couple or group meal. The food is as good as I remember. I have a few places in the US seek out this food. This is one of them. The food is very good. The staff is nice and attentive and the price is just right. Not cheep but inexpensive for the quality and portions. There is something for meat lovers, vegetarians and you can always do both. I had the Queen Messob (meat and vegetarian mix) and a spicy chicken stuffed bread app Chicken Sambosa. My only regret is the empty seats! I hope this tucked away jewel sticks around. Until the next time! My fond memories freshened up. Please come and enjoy!

Cleanliness, atmosphere, service: All top-notch. Having been in other Ethiopian restaurants in larger cities like Denver, this place has the most class of all combined! Excellent job Queen of Sheba. Vegetarian combo was good, except for the collard greens which were cooked in WAY too much oil. That's the only reason I can't give 5 stars. The lentils had the perfect amount of spice, and the yellow split peas accompanied green beans, lettuce salad, and (sadly) boring white potatoes. If I were a local who frequently visited, I'd ask for no potatoes and more lentils. The portion size wasn't large for a hungry stomach, so I asked the waiter for more of two items and additional injera. He obliged without charging more. It's typically their culture to make sure you're full.

The Vegetarian Sampler is always the best way to go. Unless you know Ethiopian cuisine and know what you like, it is best to get the SAMPLER version (you may have to ask for it). A dollop of each will come on a bed of injera bread and you eat with your fingers. Try the Sambussa as an appetizer. Honey wine is a great drink but watch it, the alcohol sneaks up on you!

Read about Queen of Sheba in the OK tourism guide. It was very cool because I had never had Ethiopian food before. The waiter helped my husband and I choose and explained the dishes. We ended up getting the Queen of Sheba sampler plate which had veggies, chicken and two types of beef. We got the portion for two and it was plenty. We also had the chicken sambusa for an appetizer which was similar to an Indian samosa and very good. I was also very impressed with the interior of this establishment and the decor. I recommend it for a change of pace.
